Dr. Elizabeth Ribarsky, Ph. D.
After QUITE the hiatus, the Zephyr is back with a brand-new episode, catching up from an early-Covid 2020 interview with one of my professors from the University of Illinois at Springfield, Professor Elizabeth Ribarsky. Beth has a passion for Communication and how to convey new information to her students with Dating and Sexual Communication in creative and dynamic ways. Beth talks about her research on dating expectations and how various gender roles actually translate in real-life versus say, from The Bachelor, and how men and women present themselves, be it from how we dress to online dating apps.
Gain some great incite about how social media and culture has affected individuals on how we handle rejection, interacting with each other, and how we affect each other nonverbally. Additionally, Beth had a hand in developing a fantastic textbook, "Activate Your Superpower" which was a collaborative effort for encouraging individuals to be advocates for applying practical themes and ideas that are designed to help people live better lives and helping improve the lives of others with kindness and compassion.

In a fantastic conversation about life, inspiration, and giving back to helping youth develop, I had the opportunity to sit for a chat with Grammy winner, educator, and philanthropist Ulysses Owens, Jr. We dive deep into what started his musical passions and endevours, what musical awards mean to him, and the organization that he and his family started to instill a sense of pride and creativity in children and young adults to help inspire creativity.
Our conversation was generously arranged by Alec Bradley Cigars, cigars made from passion and bringing people together in conversation and telling stories. Hear Ulysses's story today!

I am very pleased to be able to bring additional new subject matter to the Zephyr! Style marks occasion and certain keepsakes and potential heirlooms are reserved for bringing people together, especially in love and marriage.
I am very proud to welcome to the Zephyr, Mr. Ryan Riek!
Ryan is the owner of the Jewelry Replacement Source, a small business out of Phoenix, Arizona. Ryan, a family man himself, presented me the opportunity to chat with him about acquiring a successful and beloved small business, and what inspired him to not only transform it into a respect destination for jewelry repairs and restoration, but making it an admired business throughout the country. We discuss his entry into the business from training to ownership and deep dive into working with customers and how we feel about our own styles of taking care of people and joining you in making your special moments all the more incredible.

Hospitality and Fashion with Religion
Next stop on the Zephyr, we dabble into input on career and how the evolution of fashion also can influence different cultures and religions! I was lucky enough to get a chat with a most wonderful lady, Miss Henna Khemani. Henna is a professional concierge in Chicago and provides some fantastic insight with her education and training in hotel hospitality. If it's from the front of the house to the kitchen and dabbling in theater, its all about providing guests with the best possible experience and providing guests a warm and welcoming home-away-from home. Henna is also from India and a practicing Hindu, and she gives a very informative look into how fashion influences practices. What the occasion is and elements such as what region you live in, languages you speak, and what role the individual plays all play apart in what dictates the fashion of the moment. Colors, fabrics, gender, age, and time periods all play a crucial role in these wonderful customs. |
The Golden Shears organization is an entity that showcases young talent from around the world and trains to Saville Row specifications and standards. I had the amazing opportunity to sit with a 2017 recipient of the Golden Shears Awards, Jorden Barrett of Jorden Elizabeth Tailoring out of London.
In another conversation that takes Style Zephyr international, Jorden and I had many great chats and in our sit down for the podcast, she shares with me what ignited her passion for tailoring and the many personal experiences that impacted her personal investment. Zephyr celebrates Jorden's effort in being a lady-business owner, in a historically gentleman dominated industry and her endevours in creating clothing for the most unique clients. We talk about the intimacy of a bespoke clothing consultation with her and we shed more light on the continued encouragement of folks to treat themselves to classical, English tailoring that takes years to master and countless hours to construct this beautiful clothing.

In a new direction for conversation on the Zephyr, sometimes in dark and difficult times, faith is a tool to use to draw hope, love, compassion, and reassurance things "things will be ok". When looking to someone for positivity, passion, excitement, and passion, I invited my friend Kennysha Dumas to the Zephyr.
Kennysha is a minister and someone I met a few years ago, but someone that was always quite stylish and almost never without a smile. In our conversation, she talks to me about her professional career and what happened to her to cement her sense of caring and her eye for how to dress and paying attention to her appearance and what message it conveyed to others. We talk about her personal struggles, how having a negative mindset and attitude affected her and how much goodness has come to her life since turning to faith and caring for others.
Kennysha shares how faith has helped her and her family and how it might help others that are struggling, feeling lost or depressed, or alone. She gives suggestions for where and who to reach out to or even if someone just needs someone to talk to.
Keep the faith, and stay styled!
Welcoming aboard the Zephyr, is Mr. Callum O'Donnell of Aberlour Whiskey!
Long have I waited to be able to sit with someone as knowledgeable and traveled about scotches, bourbons, and whiskeys as Callum. As the Midwest Representative for Aberlour Distillery, we talked about whiskey basics for how they are distilled, single and double malt, and developing a palliate for characteristics like peat, earth, and fruits flavors.
Callum also gave some pointers for not only how to enjoy your favorite highball or cocktail but his suggestions for great spots around downtown Chicago to enjoy them at!

Introducing a wonderful new company out of Australia, Chiara To sits with me and chats about her new company, founded for movement, community, and service to others while manufacturing beautiful clothing for girls and women for dancing.
We talk about how the company helps with victims of sexual abuse with donating proceeds from all of their purchases, the physical and mental well-being of everyone involved, and the power of a woman's instinct for being an entrepreneur with a company centered on charity and social engagement! |
The next episode of Zephyr features wonderful friend and talent, Kale Lawrence! An Illinois native that shares her personal and professional inspirations for what ultimately drove her to becoming a published author, she had an affinity for her work with Disney, Corporate Communications, and her own literary favorites.
Kale shares her muses and personal turbulence and how they inspired her writings. Additionally, I'm happy to have her share some special news with Zephyr as she forges ahead with her re-branding and new writing endevours! |
Fresh off the presses!
For the first time, I proudly welcome my first restaurant aboard the Zephyr!
Located in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago, Franco's has been a dining destination in amazing Italian cuisine for over 30 years. Owner Frank Ruffolo sat with me and we talk about the family history, including their arrival in America. What does it take to uphold a family tradition? What lessons in business are picked up along the way?
We get to chat about the sacrifices of owning a restaurant, how to nurture your community, and the development and maintaining of a great menu that is also seasonal.
You can find them online and on their social media, and if you're looking for reservations, OpenTable allows for online reservations.
It's #shopLOCALmovement! I have the honor and pleasure of featuring the owner and founder of Wet Shaving Products, Lee Tyau, from Arizona where we're spotlighting an awesome product! If you are looking to "up" (or get!) a shave game, look no further! Lee was tired of overpaying for products with harsh ingredients and chemical that didn't belong on our skin. He educated himself on what made the best shaving soap, balm and beyond for a quality, classical shave! Hear about the building blocks of a small business and consider a stocking stuffer this holiday season, in what the also the yearly finale for the show! ..oh, and hey..it's made in the USA! |

Antique Style, in a small, local business!
Just a few miles south of Chicago, is a store that has earned the "Best in the Midwest" for their experience, variety, customer experience, and..Affordability! Say hello to Affordable Antiques and More in Naperville, Illinois!
Style can come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and mannerisms. Antiquing is a hobby and passion to so many people who use it to furnish their homes, the way they dress, or maybe further a collection (I collect Chicago World Fair artifacts) as heirlooms.
With their March Open House approaching, I finally had the chance to sit down with Mr. Gary Domzalski who I wanted to talk to to shed light on his career, the path that the store has gone on to its present day status with the community and the physical locations, but most of all, how it has nurtured it's relationship with the community and the clientele they have have taken in.
Gary and his staff are very respectful and pleasant folks to do business with and you can find them on Instagram and Facebook with affordable shipping options available if anything happens to catch your eye. Give them a ring at (630) 505-1463 or you can stop by at 1508 N. Naper Blvd in Naperville.
Gary has over 25 years of experience and the store boasts an impressive 11,000 square feet. Stop on by and help to support a local business!
On the Road to Esteli Series, I'm chatting with one of the Alec Bradley Cigar namesake, Bradley Rubin!
The youngest son of company owner, Alan Rubin, Bradley will give his first solo interview on the Zephyr. Together, we chat and talk being literally born into the business and how his upbringing and affected his work thus far. Additionally, he sheds some light on a culture shift within the company and how they intend on beginning to aim for a younger customer for the future. Bradley also updates us on the performance of their two new line releases from the Black Market and Prensado brands.
Finally, I am super excited to be working to put more ladies content out, and working more with my friend, Heather Miller. A certified aesthetician, Heather has already provided fantastic make-up tips and I plan on developing this more in the future and using it to springboard to more female-oriented content. Heather returns with another segment of Color Me Pretty!
Style Zephyr once again bringing more than just fashion to the style realm.
I finally had the opportunity to sit with my friend, artist Mary Saran, where we had the chance to dive into conversation about her training and work between Chicago and New York. What's inside a creative mind? We talk her inspirations and musings as well as the kinds of projects shes's most passionate about. In collaboration with the Alec Bradley Cigar Company, SZ is super excited to introduce folks to a new collection we will be producing together over the span of the 2018 season, the "Road to Esteli Series".
First, this collection of episodes will be showcasing the worldwide release of the new, award-winning blends and brands, Black Market Esteli and a twist on the already beloved and 2011 Cigar of the Year Prensado with the Prensado Lost Art. Both cigars have already achieved international acclaim and are being produced in a wide array of popular sizes and box counts.
In addition, with a view to establishing and maintaining relationships with the folks that support us, the Road to Esteli Series will work to profile a company that is revered globally for making incredibly complex, yet very enjoyable premium cigars. We will get an inside perspective on not only the inner workings of the company but the stories and experiences of those that run the company and live to Live True!
In our most recent episode, I had the honor of sitting down with Mr. Matthew "Sunflowerman" Miller. An international fashion illustrator, Matthew has traveled the world extensively not only honing his own artistic skills, but seeking to expand on his own inspiration as an admirer of the fashion industry for both men and women.
As we all know, not everything in life is learned from a textbook. Matthew sheds light on his individual creative training and how he feels the proper skills can be obtained for other folks considering a future, professionally or otherwise, as it comes to art.
Additionally, Matthew is passionate about his watches and a good cup of Joe! Our conversation turns more philosophical with his perspective on how the movetime of a good timepiece and the experience and methodology of creating a wonderful cup of coffee can be a creative muse.
It's the kind of clothes that mothers and daughters can wear, in terms of concept... It's not about age. It's about taste, and it's about lifestyle. I believe women of all ages can wear anything. -Ralph Lauren
